Description
Play and control music in four separate stereo areas with independent source selection, volume adjustment and room-by-room tone control.
The TEXONIC RX850 combines an eight-channel power amplifier, four-zone audio matrix and built-in media player in one rack-mount system. Each zone can independently select the built-in player, Line 1 or Line 2, making it suitable for commercial and residential installations where different areas may need different audio sources.
True 3 × 4 Audio Matrix
Unlike a standard multi-zone amplifier that sends one shared program everywhere, the RX850 includes three selectable sources that can be independently assigned to four listening zones.
Available Source 1: Built-in Bluetooth, FM, USB and Micro SD media player
Available Source 2: External audio equipment connected to Line 1
Available Source 3: External audio equipment connected to Line 2
Each of the four zones has a three-position source selector. One zone can play Bluetooth while another plays Line 1, and the remaining zones can independently select any of the three available sources.
Four Independent Stereo Zones
Eight amplifier channels are arranged as four left-and-right stereo zones. Each zone includes separate source selection, volume control, tone adjustment and operating-status indicators.
| Zone | Powered Channels | Independent Controls |
|---|---|---|
| Zone 1 | Left and right | Source, volume, high, mid and low |
| Zone 2 | Left and right | Source, volume, high, mid and low |
| Zone 3 | Left and right | Source, volume, high, mid and low |
| Zone 4 | Left and right | Source, volume, high, mid and low |
Practical Multi-Zone Applications
| Application | Example Zone Arrangement |
|---|---|
| Restaurant | Dining room, bar, private room and reception |
| Retail Store | Sales floor, showroom, fitting area and checkout |
| Office | Reception, workspace, boardroom and staff room |
| Fitness Facility | Cardio area, studio, reception and change area |
| Home Audio | Living room, kitchen, bedroom and home office |
Different Music in Different Areas
The matrix design allows several source combinations. All four zones may play the same program, or each area can select from the Player, Line 1 and Line 2 inputs.
Example: Zone 1 plays Bluetooth from the built-in media player.
Zone 2 plays a network streamer connected to Line 1.
Zone 3 plays a television or media player connected to Line 2.
Zone 4 may select any of those three sources independently.
The RX850 contains three selectable source buses. It cannot provide four completely different sources at the same time unless additional switching or matrix equipment is added.
Built-In Bluetooth Media Player
Bluetooth allows music to be played from a compatible smartphone, tablet or computer. Any zone set to Player will receive the Bluetooth program.
Bluetooth is suitable for convenient local playback. The RX850 does not contain built-in Wi-Fi or network streaming, but a separate network streamer may be connected to Line 1 or Line 2.
FM Radio, USB and Micro SD Playback
- Built-in FM radio tuner
- USB music-file playback
- Micro SD music-file playback
- Front display for media information
- Track selection and play/pause controls
- Repeat playback for compatible USB and Micro SD files
- Remote control for normal media-player functions
Two External Stereo Line Inputs
Line 1 and Line 2 accept compatible stereo RCA audio sources such as a network streamer, television, computer, tuner, media player or audio receiver.
After the external equipment is connected, each zone can independently select Line 1 or Line 2 from its front-panel source control.
Independent Volume for Every Zone
Each zone has its own large front-panel volume control. This allows the sound level to be adjusted according to the room size, speaker quantity, listening distance and activity in that area without changing the other zones.
High, Midrange and Low Tone Control
Every zone includes separate high, midrange and low-frequency controls. This allows the sound to be adjusted for different speakers and room conditions.
- High: adjusts treble detail and brightness.
- Mid: adjusts vocal presence and the central frequency range.
- Low: adjusts bass weight and low-frequency output.
Begin with the controls in their centre position and make small adjustments. Excessive tone boost can cause clipping and reduce usable amplifier headroom.
Eight Powered Speaker Channels
Each zone includes a left and right powered speaker output. The final output depends on the impedance connected to each amplifier channel.
| Speaker Load | Published Output | Typical Connection |
|---|---|---|
| 8Ω per channel | 50W × 8 channels | One compatible 8Ω speaker on each channel |
| 4Ω per channel | Up to 100W × 8 channels | One 4Ω speaker or two compatible 8Ω speakers in parallel |
The manufacturer also states a maximum combined amplifier output of 640W.
Do not design the system on the assumption that all eight channels can continuously produce 100W at the same time. Speaker impedance, listening level, source signal and total amplifier demand must all be considered.
Speaker Quantity Options
| Wiring Arrangement | Speakers per Zone | Total Speakers |
|---|---|---|
| One 8Ω speaker per channel | 2 | 8 |
| Two 8Ω speakers in parallel per channel | 4 | 16 |
When two 8-ohm speakers are connected in parallel to one channel, they create a 4-ohm load and share that channel’s available power. Confirm that every speaker can safely handle its share of the amplifier output.
Important Low-Impedance Speaker Notice
The RX850 is designed for compatible 4–8Ω low-impedance speakers.
Do not connect a load below 4 ohms to any amplifier channel.
Do not combine the left and right outputs or connect the channels together.
The RX850 does not provide direct 70V or 100V speaker outputs. Never connect a 70V or 100V distributed speaker line directly to its powered speaker terminals.
Keep Speaker Polarity Consistent
Connect the positive amplifier terminal to the positive speaker terminal and the negative amplifier terminal to the negative speaker terminal. Consistent polarity helps maintain balanced bass response and even sound throughout each stereo zone.
Four Zone-Level RCA Outputs
Each zone includes an RCA preamp/sub output that follows the selected audio program for that zone.
These outputs may connect to compatible active subwoofers, additional power amplifiers or other line-level audio equipment. Up to four external devices can be connected—one for each zone.
Active Subwoofer Expansion
An active subwoofer with its own built-in amplifier can be connected to a zone’s RCA output to add stronger low-frequency reproduction.
A passive subwoofer cannot be connected directly to an RCA line output. Use a powered subwoofer or a separate compatible subwoofer amplifier with suitable level and crossover controls.
Microphone and Paging Requirements
The RX850 does not include microphone inputs, paging priority, telephone paging or built-in chime functions.
Commercial paging requires a compatible external mixer, paging preamplifier or audio processor connected to Line 1 or Line 2.
Zone Status Indicators
- SIG: indicates that an audio signal is present.
- CLIP: indicates that the source or output level is too high and should be reduced.
- PROT: operates during start-up and may remain on if the amplifier enters protection mode.
Built-In Amplifier Protection
- Over-temperature protection
- Speaker-output short-circuit protection
- DC fault protection
- Independent zone clip monitoring
- Independent zone protection indicators
If a CLIP or PROT indicator remains active, reduce the volume and inspect the speaker impedance, wiring, ventilation and connected source levels before continuing operation.
Professional Rack Installation
The RX850 is designed for installation in a standard 19-inch equipment rack using the supplied rack-mount hardware.
Support the amplifier correctly inside the rack, keep all ventilation openings clear and provide adequate airflow around the chassis. Rear support is recommended for secure professional installation.
