Description
Power a larger commercial speaker system with efficient Class-D amplification and flexible 70V, 100V or 8-ohm operation.
The TEXONIC RXD480 delivers 480W for distributed commercial speakers or two 240W channels for compatible low-impedance applications. Its compact half-rack chassis provides substantial output power without taking unnecessary space in an equipment cabinet or AV rack.
High-Power Amplification for Larger Business Spaces
The RXD480 is the highest-powered amplifier in the RXD Series. It is intended for projects that require more speaker capacity and operating headroom than the RXD120 or RXD240 can provide.
It can support a larger quantity of compatible ceiling, wall, pendant, surface-mount or paging speakers when the system voltage and combined speaker-tap load are calculated correctly.
Recommended Commercial Applications
- Large restaurants, cafés and lounges
- Retail stores and showrooms
- Gyms and recreation facilities
- Warehouses and distribution centres
- Hotels and banquet facilities
- Offices and commercial buildings
- Schools and community spaces
- Large background-music speaker zones
Dedicated Power Amplifier
The RXD480 does not include built-in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi streaming, USB playback, FM radio, microphone inputs or audio-source selection.
Connect a compatible mixer, preamplifier, network streamer, Bluetooth receiver, audio processor or other line-level source to supply music or paging audio.
One High-Power Commercial Audio Zone
When used with a 70V or 100V speaker system, the RXD480 powers one main distributed audio zone. All speakers connected to that amplifier receive the same incoming audio program.
The term “zone amplifier” describes the area powered by the amplifier. It does not mean the RXD480 contains multiple independently selectable music zones.
Build a Multi-Zone System with Separate Amplifiers
Several RXD amplifiers can be combined when different areas require different power levels.
For example, an RXD480 may power a large dining room while an RXD120 powers a smaller lobby. A suitable multi-zone source, matrix processor or mixer is required when each area needs independent music or volume control.
70V and 100V Distributed Speaker Operation
The RXD480 supports compatible 70V and 100V commercial speakers with transformer tap settings. Distributed audio is useful when multiple speakers must operate across longer cable runs.
Select one system voltage and use the matching tap on every connected speaker. Add together all selected speaker tap values to calculate the total amplifier load.
Choose Speaker Taps Based on the Space
Speaker transformer taps do not need to be identical throughout the system. Each speaker can be adjusted to suit its location.
- Lower tap settings can be used in hallways, offices and quiet customer areas.
- Medium tap settings are suitable for retail floors, dining rooms and general background music.
- Higher tap settings may be needed in gyms, warehouses or spaces with greater background noise.
- Recalculate the total speaker load whenever a tap setting or speaker quantity changes.
Speaker Load and 20% Amplifier Headroom
The total of all selected constant-voltage speaker taps must remain below the amplifier’s 480W rating. Keeping approximately 20% of the amplifier output in reserve provides practical headroom for normal commercial operation.
Rated constant-voltage output: 480W
Recommended 20% reserve: 96W
Recommended maximum speaker-tap load: Approximately 384W
Use the selected transformer tap when calculating the load—not the speaker’s maximum power rating unless the maximum tap is actually being used.
Example Constant-Voltage Speaker Loads
8 speakers at 30W: 240W combined load
12 speakers at 30W: 360W combined load
16 speakers at 20W: 320W combined load
24 speakers at 15W: 360W combined load
These examples are general planning references. Final speaker quantity and tap selection depend on the speaker model, mounting height, spacing, room acoustics and required listening level.
2 × 240W Low-Impedance Operation
The RXD480 can also deliver up to 240W per channel into compatible 8-ohm speakers.
This configuration can be used for a two-channel stereo system or two correctly designed low-impedance speaker circuits. Calculate speaker impedance and power handling separately for each channel.
Important Output Connection Notice
Select either 70V/100V constant-voltage operation or 8-ohm low-impedance operation before connecting the speakers.
Do not use the constant-voltage and low-impedance outputs at the same time. Confirm the output selector, system voltage, speaker wiring and calculated load before turning on the amplifier.
Balanced and Unbalanced Line Inputs
Stereo RCA inputs provide a convenient connection for compatible streamers, media players and other unbalanced line-level sources.
A balanced Euroblock input is available for professional audio equipment and longer signal-cable runs where improved resistance to electrical interference may be useful.
Link Output for Additional Amplifiers
The balanced link output passes the incoming audio signal to another compatible amplifier. This allows several amplifiers to share one source while each amplifier powers a separate speaker area.
Selectable 180Hz High-Pass Filter
The built-in high-pass filter reduces low-frequency content below approximately 180Hz.
This setting can help protect compact commercial speakers and improve voice clarity when deep bass is not required. Leave the filter off when the speakers and application require a wider frequency range.
Front-Panel Level and Tone Controls
- Main input-level adjustment
- Bass control at 100Hz
- Treble control at 10kHz
- Signal-presence indicator
- Output-clipping indicator
- Protection-status indicator
- Front power switch and indicator
Compact Half-Rack Chassis
Despite its 480W output, the RXD480 uses the same compact half-rack chassis format as the other RXD Series amplifiers.
It can be placed on a suitable shelf or installed in a standard 19-inch rack using a compatible RXD Series rack-mount kit. Rack kits are optional and are not included with the amplifier.
Installation and Ventilation
Install the amplifier in a dry, well-ventilated location and keep its ventilation openings clear.
For rack installations, allow suitable ventilation space and keep signal cables separated from AC power wiring to reduce interference and support reliable operation.
Built-In Amplifier Protection
- Short-circuit protection
- Output-overload protection
- High-temperature protection
- Signal-status monitoring
- Clip and protection indicators
A clip or protection indicator that remains active may point to an excessive input level, an overloaded speaker line, incorrect wiring or insufficient ventilation.
