Description
Deliver clear background music and voice announcements through a durable, professionally enclosed commercial ceiling speaker.
The TEXONIC AF206T is a 6-inch two-way commercial in-ceiling speaker designed for 70V and 100V distributed audio systems. Its separate woofer and tweeter support balanced music and speech, while the metal back-can enclosure, white metal grille and spring-clip mounting provide a clean solution for offices, restaurants, retail stores, clinics, schools, hotels and other Canadian business spaces.
Two-Way Sound for Music and Paging
The AF206T uses a 6-inch woofer for the lower and middle frequencies together with a separate 1-inch tweeter for high-frequency detail.
This two-way design helps reproduce speech more clearly while giving background music a more balanced sound than a basic single-cone paging speaker. It is a practical choice when one ceiling system must handle both everyday music and announcements.
Metal Back-Can Commercial Construction
A metal enclosure covers the rear of the speaker, transformer and internal wiring. The white metal grille provides a durable finished appearance below the ceiling.
This enclosed design is well suited to commercial installations where a more complete ceiling-speaker assembly is preferred over an open-back speaker. Building-code, plenum and fire-rating requirements must still be confirmed for the specific installation.
Recommended Business Applications
- Restaurants, cafés and coffee shops
- Retail stores and showrooms
- Offices, boardrooms and reception areas
- Medical clinics and waiting rooms
- Schools, classrooms and training rooms
- Hotels, hallways and common areas
- Salons, spas and wellness centres
- Commercial background-music systems
- Paging and general announcement systems
70V and 100V Distributed Audio
The built-in transformer allows the AF206T to operate with compatible 70V and 100V commercial amplifiers.
Constant-voltage systems make it practical to connect multiple ceiling speakers across a business while using longer speaker-cable runs. The speakers are normally wired in parallel, and the selected wattage tap of every speaker is added together to calculate the amplifier load.
Selectable Transformer Taps
| System Voltage | Lower Tap | Higher Tap |
|---|---|---|
| 70V | 1.5W | 3W |
| 100V | 3W | 6W |
Always match the selected speaker tap to the amplifier’s operating voltage. Do not calculate a 70V system using the 100V tap values.
Choosing the Right Speaker Tap
The transformer tap determines how much amplifier power the speaker uses and helps set its approximate output level.
- Use the lower tap for offices, hallways, treatment rooms and quiet background-music areas.
- Use the higher tap in restaurants, retail areas or rooms that need stronger sound.
- Speakers on the same amplifier may use different tap settings.
- Recalculate the total speaker load after changing any tap.
Speaker Load and Amplifier Headroom
Add the selected wattage tap of every speaker connected to the amplifier. Maintaining approximately 20% unused amplifier capacity provides practical headroom for normal commercial music and paging.
| Amplifier Rating | Recommended Reserve | Recommended Tap Load |
|---|---|---|
| 60W | 12W | Approximately 48W maximum |
| 120W | 24W | Approximately 96W maximum |
| 240W | 48W | Approximately 192W maximum |
Example 70V Speaker Loads
| Speaker Configuration | Combined Load |
|---|---|
| 6 speakers at 3W | 18W |
| 8 speakers at 3W | 24W |
| 12 speakers at 3W | 36W |
| 16 speakers at 3W | 48W |
Sixteen AF206T speakers using 3W taps create a 48W load, which reaches the recommended planning limit for a 60W amplifier. Room size, speaker spacing and required volume must also be considered.
Important Amplifier Connection Notice
Connect the speaker only to the amplifier output that matches the selected 70V or 100V system.
Do not connect the AF206T directly to a conventional 4-ohm or 8-ohm amplifier output.
Keep speaker polarity consistent throughout the complete system.
Switch off and disconnect the amplifier before installing speakers or changing any wiring connection.
Fast Spring-Clip Ceiling Installation
Spring-loaded mounting clips secure the AF206T against the rear of the ceiling material after the speaker is inserted into the prepared opening.
The included cutout template helps mark the ceiling more accurately. Check above the ceiling for wiring, plumbing, ductwork, framing and other hidden obstructions before cutting.
Clean Flush-Mount Appearance
The round white grille sits neatly against the ceiling after installation. Its simple commercial design works well in customer-facing spaces without drawing unnecessary attention away from the interior.
Planning Speaker Placement
Using several speakers at moderate volume normally creates more even coverage than using one or two speakers at a high level.
- Distribute speakers evenly through the listening area.
- Avoid placing every speaker near one wall or entrance.
- Allow for walls, shelves and other sound-blocking objects.
- Use closer spacing in noisy or divided business spaces.
- Confirm ceiling structure and available mounting depth.
Final speaker quantity depends on the ceiling height, floor plan, background-noise level and preferred listening volume.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the AF206T connect to a normal home stereo amplifier?
No. The AF206T is designed for a compatible 70V or 100V commercial amplifier and should not be connected directly to a standard 4-ohm or 8-ohm stereo output.
Can several AF206T speakers connect to one amplifier?
Yes. Multiple speakers may be connected in parallel when the amplifier voltage matches the speaker taps and the combined wattage remains within the amplifier’s safe operating capacity.
Is the AF206T suitable for both paging and music?
Yes. The separate woofer and tweeter make it suitable for clear announcements and general background-music playback.
Does the metal back can make the speaker fire rated?
Not automatically. The metal enclosure provides a more complete commercial speaker assembly, but installation and fire-rating requirements must be confirmed with local codes and the project authority.
