Description

Add fuller low-frequency sound, clear announcements and dependable ceiling coverage to a commercial 70V or 100V audio system.

The TEXONIC CM80T is an 8-inch coaxial commercial ceiling speaker made for businesses that want stronger low-range performance than a smaller ceiling speaker can normally provide. Its 8-inch polypropylene woofer, coaxial tweeter, selectable transformer taps and clean flush-mount design make it well suited to restaurants, cafés, retail stores, hotels, gyms, offices, schools and other professional spaces across Canada.

Fuller Sound from a Larger 8-Inch Woofer

The larger 8-inch woofer helps the CM80T reproduce more low-frequency energy than smaller 6-inch commercial ceiling speakers.

This gives background music greater warmth, body and fullness, especially with bass guitar, drums, lower vocal ranges and other music content that can sound thin through small paging-style speakers.

Better low-range performance: The published frequency response begins at 60Hz.

Best use: Commercial spaces where background music quality is as important as speech and paging clarity.

Coaxial Two-Way Speaker Design

The CM80T combines an 8-inch polypropylene woofer with a 1-inch coaxial tweeter in one ceiling-mounted assembly.

The woofer handles bass and midrange information while the tweeter reproduces higher-frequency detail. This design supports balanced music, clear vocals and understandable announcements throughout the listening area.

Designed for Music and Paging

The CM80T is suitable for commercial audio systems that need one speaker model for both everyday background music and voice communication.

  • Background music during normal business hours
  • Customer and staff announcements
  • General public-address and paging systems
  • Training-room and presentation audio
  • Multi-zone commercial sound installations
  • Building-wide distributed ceiling audio

Recommended Commercial Applications

ApplicationWhy the CM80T Works Well
Restaurant or Café Warmer background music with clear staff announcements
Retail Store Fuller sales-floor music and understandable customer paging
Gym or Wellness Space Stronger low-frequency output for energetic music
Hotel Lobby, corridor, meeting-room and hospitality audio
Office or Boardroom Balanced speech, presentation and background audio
School or Training Facility Paging, program audio and general announcements
Public or Transportation Space Clear distributed audio with higher available output

70V and 100V Commercial Audio Compatibility

The built-in transformer allows the CM80T to operate with compatible 70V and 100V commercial amplifiers.

Constant-voltage audio makes it practical to connect multiple speakers over longer cable distances. The speakers are normally connected in parallel, and the selected transformer tap of every speaker is added together to calculate the amplifier load.

Selectable Transformer Taps

Speaker-Line VoltageLow TapMedium TapHigh Tap
70V 5W 10W 20W
100V 10W 20W 40W

Tap values change according to the operating voltage.

Always use the 70V values with a 70V amplifier output and the 100V values with a 100V amplifier output.

Colour-Coded Speaker Wiring

Wire Colour70V Connection100V Connection
Blue Common / GND Common / GND
Green 5W 10W
Yellow 10W 20W
Red 20W 40W

Connect the amplifier common terminal to the blue wire and connect the amplifier’s positive 70V or 100V terminal to the selected tap wire. Insulate every unused wire separately.

Choosing the Right Tap

The selected transformer tap controls how much amplifier power the speaker uses and helps determine its approximate volume.

  • Use lower taps for offices, corridors, washrooms and quiet areas.
  • Use medium taps for normal restaurants, cafés, retail stores and lobbies.
  • Use higher taps for gyms, open commercial spaces and louder environments.
  • Different speakers on the same line may use different tap settings.
  • Recalculate the complete speaker load whenever a tap changes.

Speaker Load and Amplifier Headroom

Add the selected transformer-tap wattage of every connected speaker. For dependable commercial operation, maintaining approximately 20% unused amplifier capacity provides practical headroom for music and paging.

Amplifier RatingRecommended ReserveRecommended Maximum Tap Load
60W 12W Approximately 48W
120W 24W Approximately 96W
240W 48W Approximately 192W
350W 70W Approximately 280W

Example CM80T Speaker Loads

Speaker ConfigurationCombined LoadSuggested Amplifier Rating
4 speakers at 10W 40W 60W or higher
6 speakers at 10W 60W 120W or higher
6 speakers at 20W 120W 240W or higher
8 speakers at 20W 160W 240W or higher
12 speakers at 20W 240W 350W or higher

These examples are for basic load planning. Final tap settings should also consider the room size, ceiling height, speaker spacing, background noise and preferred listening level.

Important Connection Notice

Connect the CM80T only to a compatible 70V or 100V amplifier output.

Do not connect it directly to a conventional 4-ohm or 8-ohm amplifier terminal.

Use only one positive tap wire on each speaker and insulate all unused tap wires.

Keep speaker polarity and common connections consistent throughout the complete system.

Switch off and disconnect the amplifier before installing speakers or changing any wiring connection.

Four-Tab Flush-Mount Installation

Four mounting tabs secure the CM80T against the rear of the ceiling material after the speaker is inserted into the prepared opening.

Use a hand-held #2 Phillips screwdriver to tighten the tabs. Avoid an electric screwdriver because excessive torque may damage the mounting system.

240mm Ceiling Cutout

The CM80T requires a circular ceiling opening of approximately 240mm or 9.45 inches.

Use the supplied template and inspect the space above the ceiling before cutting. Avoid electrical cables, plumbing, ductwork, framing, sprinkler lines and other hidden obstructions.

Clean Commercial Ceiling Finish

The white powder-coated metal grille snaps into place after installation and provides a clean professional finish. The low-profile round design helps the speaker blend into most commercial ceiling interiors.

Planning Speaker Placement

Several properly spaced ceiling speakers usually provide more even sound coverage than a small number of speakers operating at very high volume.

  • Keep speakers approximately 3 feet from corners or tall reflective surfaces.
  • Distribute speakers evenly throughout the main listening area.
  • Use closer spacing in noisy or divided commercial interiors.
  • Allow for walls, shelves and other objects that may block sound.
  • Confirm that the ceiling can securely support the speaker.

For a room up to approximately 400 square feet, the installation manual suggests two speakers spaced about 10–12 feet apart as a general starting point.

Larger or irregular rooms may require three or more speakers in a staggered layout. Final coverage should be planned from the actual ceiling drawing and room conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does an 8-inch ceiling speaker provide more bass?

Generally, a larger woofer can move more air and reproduce lower frequencies more effectively than a smaller speaker. The CM80T is rated down to 60Hz, giving it fuller low-range performance than the 6-inch CM60T.

Can the CM80T connect to a standard home stereo amplifier?

No. The CM80T is designed for compatible 70V or 100V commercial amplifier outputs and should not be connected directly to a conventional 4-ohm or 8-ohm stereo output.

Can several CM80T speakers connect to one amplifier?

Yes. Multiple speakers may be connected in parallel when the amplifier voltage matches the selected taps and the combined speaker wattage remains within the amplifier’s safe capacity.

Can each CM80T use a different wattage tap?

Yes. Lower taps may be used in quiet rooms while higher taps are used in larger or louder areas. Add every selected tap when calculating the complete amplifier load.

Is the CM80T suitable for music and announcements?

Yes. The 8-inch woofer supports fuller music reproduction, while the coaxial tweeter helps maintain clear vocals, paging and speech.

Is the CM80T fire rated or plenum rated?

The published specifications do not state a fire or plenum rating. Confirm the building code, ceiling-space and project requirements before completing the installation.
