Description

Create smooth background-music coverage and clear business announcements with a slim commercial ceiling speaker that blends neatly into modern interiors.

The TEXONIC AF106 is a slim 6-inch two-way commercial ceiling speaker designed for distributed 70V and 100V audio systems. Its low-profile enclosure, trimless-style appearance, selectable transformer taps and snap-clamp mounting system make it a practical option for restaurants, cafés, offices, retail stores, clinics, salons and other Canadian commercial spaces.

Slim 3-Inch Ceiling Depth

With an overall depth of approximately 3 inches, the AF106 fits many suspended-ceiling and finished-ceiling installations where space above the ceiling surface is limited.

The compact enclosure is useful for new business audio projects and selected replacement installations. Always confirm the available ceiling depth and inspect for hidden obstructions before cutting.

Clean Trimless-Style Appearance

The narrow visible edge helps the speaker sit neatly against the ceiling without the wide mounting border found on many traditional paging speakers.

Its simple white finish works well in customer-facing interiors where the sound system should remain discreet and should not distract from the room design.

Two-Way Sound for Music and Paging

A 6-inch main driver reproduces the lower and middle frequencies while a separate 1-inch tweeter adds vocal presence and high-frequency detail.

This two-way arrangement provides clearer speech and more balanced background music than a basic single-cone paging speaker. The AF106 can support normal business music, staff communication and customer announcements through one ceiling system.

Recommended Commercial Applications

  • Restaurants, cafés and coffee shops
  • Retail stores and boutiques
  • Offices and reception areas
  • Medical clinics and waiting rooms
  • Salons, spas and wellness studios
  • Classrooms and training rooms
  • Hotel corridors and common areas
  • Commercial background-music systems
  • Paging and general announcement systems

70V and 100V Commercial Audio Compatibility

The built-in transformer allows multiple AF106 speakers to operate from a compatible 70V or 100V commercial amplifier.

Constant-voltage systems are commonly used when one amplifier must operate several ceiling speakers across a business. Speakers are normally connected in parallel, and the selected tap wattage of every speaker is added together to calculate the amplifier load.

Selectable Power Taps

Speaker-Line VoltageLower TapHigher Tap
70V 3W 6W
100V 5W 10W

Tap wattage changes according to the amplifier’s speaker-line voltage.

Use the 70V tap values with a 70V amplifier output and the 100V tap values with a 100V amplifier output.

Choosing the Correct Speaker Tap

The transformer tap determines how much amplifier power the speaker uses and affects its approximate output level.

  • Use the lower tap for offices, hallways, waiting rooms and quiet background-music areas.
  • Use the higher tap in restaurants, retail stores or rooms that require stronger sound.
  • Speakers connected to the same amplifier may use different tap settings.
  • Recalculate the total system load whenever a tap setting changes.

Amplifier Load and 20% Headroom

Add the selected wattage tap of every speaker connected to the amplifier. For dependable commercial operation, maintaining approximately 20% unused amplifier capacity provides useful headroom for music peaks and voice announcements.

Amplifier RatingRecommended ReserveRecommended Maximum Tap Load
60W 12W Approximately 48W
120W 24W Approximately 96W
240W 48W Approximately 192W

Example AF106 Speaker Loads

70V Speaker ConfigurationTotal LoadPlanning Result
6 speakers at 3W 18W Comfortably within a 60W amplifier’s recommended load
8 speakers at 3W 24W Suitable for a properly planned 60W system
6 speakers at 6W 36W Within the recommended 48W limit
8 speakers at 6W 48W Reaches the recommended limit of a 60W amplifier
10 speakers at 6W 60W Use a larger amplifier to maintain headroom

These examples cover electrical load planning only. Final speaker quantity also depends on ceiling height, room shape, background noise, speaker spacing and required listening level.

Important Speaker Connection Notice

Connect the AF106 only to a compatible 70V or 100V amplifier output.

Use the common connection together with one selected transformer tap.

Insulate the unused tap lead so it cannot touch another conductor.

Keep polarity and common wiring consistent throughout the speaker line.

Switch off and disconnect the amplifier before installing speakers or changing wiring connections.

Not for Conventional 4Ω or 8Ω Outputs

The AF106 is a constant-voltage commercial speaker. Do not connect it directly to a standard 4-ohm or 8-ohm home-audio amplifier output. Use the amplifier terminal that matches the selected 70V or 100V speaker tap.

Snap-Clamp Ceiling Mounting

The clamp mechanism secures the speaker against the back of the ceiling material after the enclosure is inserted into the prepared opening.

The supplied template helps mark the required 170mm cutout. Inspect the ceiling area for wiring, framing, plumbing, ductwork and sprinkler lines before making the opening.

Planning Even Ceiling Coverage

Several speakers operating at moderate volume normally provide smoother coverage than one or two speakers operating at a high level.

  • Distribute speakers evenly throughout the listening area.
  • Avoid placing every speaker near one wall or doorway.
  • Allow for shelving, partitions and fixtures that may block sound.
  • Use closer spacing in noisy or divided commercial spaces.
  • Keep speakers away from strong HVAC airflow where possible.

AF106 and AF106T Are Different Models

This product page is for the original TEXONIC AF106.

Do not combine AF106 and AF106T specifications. Confirm the model number on the speaker, packaging or invoice before selecting tap settings or preparing a replacement ceiling cutout.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the AF106 operate with a 100V amplifier?

Yes. The published AF106 tap ratings are 5W and 10W when connected to a compatible 100V speaker output. Use the 100V tap values when calculating the amplifier load.

Can several AF106 speakers connect to one amplifier?

Yes. Multiple AF106 speakers may be connected in parallel when the speaker-line voltage matches the selected taps and the total wattage remains within the amplifier’s safe operating capacity.

Is the AF106 suitable for music and paging?

Yes. Its 6-inch main driver and separate 1-inch tweeter support commercial background music, voice paging and general announcements.

Can the AF106 connect to a regular home stereo amplifier?

No. The AF106 is designed for compatible 70V or 100V commercial amplifier outputs and should not be connected directly to a conventional 4-ohm or 8-ohm speaker output.

Is the AF106 fire rated or plenum rated?

The published product specifications do not state a fire or plenum rating. Confirm the building code and ceiling-space requirements before completing the installation.
