Description

Add clear background music and paging while maintaining a clean, modern ceiling appearance.

The TEXONIC AF106T is a slim, two-way commercial in-ceiling speaker designed for 70V and 100V distributed audio systems. Its trimless appearance, separate tweeter, compact mounting depth and snap-clamp installation make it a practical choice for offices, restaurants, retail stores, clinics, salons, reception areas and other Canadian business spaces.

Clean Trimless Ceiling Design

The AF106T uses a narrow-edge, trimless-style grille that helps the speaker blend into finished ceilings without a wide visible mounting flange.

Its low-profile appearance is well suited to customer-facing interiors where the speaker system should look neat and remain visually discreet.

Two-Way Sound for Music and Speech

A main speaker driver handles the lower and middle frequencies while the separate 1-inch tweeter reproduces higher-frequency detail.

This two-way arrangement provides clearer music and more natural voice reproduction than a basic single-cone paging speaker, making the AF106T suitable for both announcements and everyday background audio.

Recommended Commercial Applications

  • Restaurants, cafés and coffee shops
  • Retail stores and showrooms
  • Offices and reception areas
  • Medical clinics and waiting rooms
  • Salons, spas and wellness studios
  • Classrooms and training rooms
  • Hotel corridors and common areas
  • Commercial background-music systems
  • General paging and announcement systems

70V and 100V Commercial Audio Compatibility

The built-in transformer allows multiple AF106T speakers to operate from a compatible 70V or 100V commercial amplifier.

Constant-voltage systems are useful when several speakers must be installed across a business space or connected over longer speaker-cable distances. Speakers are normally connected in parallel while the selected wattage taps are added together to calculate amplifier load.

Selectable Transformer Taps

System VoltageWhite WireRed WireCommon
70V 2.5W 5W Black wire
100V 5W 10W Black wire

Choosing the Correct Tap

The selected tap controls how much amplifier power the speaker uses and influences its sound level.

  • Use the lower tap for hallways, offices, reception areas and quieter background music.
  • Use the higher tap where more output is needed, such as restaurants, retail floors or spaces with greater background noise.
  • Different speakers on the same system may use different taps.
  • Recalculate the total amplifier load whenever a speaker tap changes.

Important Wiring Notice

Connect the amplifier’s COM terminal to the speaker’s black wire.

Connect the amplifier’s positive 70V or 100V terminal to either the white or red wire according to the required tap.

Use only one positive tap wire on each speaker. Insulate the unused tap wire so it cannot touch another conductor.

Switch off and disconnect the amplifier before changing speaker wiring or tap connections.

Do Not Connect to an 8-Ohm Output

The AF106T is designed for 70V or 100V distributed speaker systems.

Do not connect it directly to a conventional 4-ohm or 8-ohm amplifier output. Use the amplifier terminal that matches the selected speaker-system voltage.

Speaker Load and Amplifier Headroom

Add the selected wattage tap of every speaker connected to the amplifier. For dependable commercial operation, it is good practice to keep approximately 20% of the amplifier’s rated output available as operating headroom.

Amplifier Rating20% ReserveRecommended Tap Load
60W 12W Approximately 48W maximum
120W 24W Approximately 96W maximum
240W 48W Approximately 192W maximum

Example Speaker Loads

Speaker ConfigurationCombined Load
4 speakers at 5W each 20W
6 speakers at 5W each 30W
8 speakers at 5W each 40W
10 speakers at 5W each 50W

For example, eight speakers using 5W taps create a 40W load and are within the recommended 48W planning limit of a 60W amplifier.

Compact Mounting Depth

The AF106T has an approximate mounting depth of 3 inches, making it suitable for many suspended and finished ceiling installations where available space above the ceiling is limited.

Always check the space above the ceiling before cutting. Avoid electrical wiring, plumbing, ductwork, framing and other hidden obstructions.

Snap-Clamp Installation

Two spring-loaded snap clamps secure the speaker against the rear of the ceiling material after it is inserted into the opening.

The included cutout template helps prepare the required 170mm opening. Protective gloves should be used when handling the clamps, and ceiling installation should be completed by a qualified person familiar with the building structure and local requirements.

General Speaker Placement

Speaker quantity and spacing depend on ceiling height, room shape, background noise, furniture and the required listening level.

The AF106T manual suggests two speakers spaced approximately 10–12 feet apart as a starting point for rooms up to about 400 square feet.

Larger or irregular rooms may require three or more speakers in a staggered layout. Final placement should be based on the actual ceiling plan and coverage requirements.
