Description
Commercial Pendant Speaker for Open-Ceiling Audio
TEXONIC PX50 5-Inch 70V/100V Pendant Speaker
The TEXONIC PX50 is a two-way commercial pendant speaker designed for clear background music and voice announcements in high, angled or open-ceiling interiors.
Its suspended design brings the speaker closer to customers, staff and other listeners when recessed ceiling speakers are not practical. Multiple PX50 speakers can be distributed across a business using a compatible 70V or 100V commercial amplifier.
Available from AVTECK in Barrie, Ontario, with shipping and technical support for commercial audio projects across Canada.
Advantages of the PX50 Pendant Speaker
Designed for Open Ceilings
The speaker hangs below exposed beams, steel structures, concrete ceilings and other surfaces where cutting a recessed speaker opening may be difficult or impossible.
Brings Sound Closer to the Listener
Lowering the speaker from a high ceiling can improve clarity and help reduce the need to operate the system at excessive volume.
Easier Multi-Speaker Expansion
In a compatible 70V or 100V system, multiple speakers can connect to one distributed speaker line. The installer sizes the amplifier by adding the selected wattage of every speaker.
Adjustable Output for Different Areas
Selectable transformer settings let an installer use a lower output in quieter areas and a higher output in louder or higher-ceiling areas while keeping the speakers on the same system.
Suitable for Music and Paging
The two-way driver design provides clearer high-frequency detail than a basic single-cone paging speaker, making the PX50 useful for background music, general announcements and everyday business audio.
Clean Architectural Appearance
The black enclosure, ceiling cover and concealed suspension system complement modern restaurants, retail interiors, offices and other open-concept commercial spaces.
Suitable Commercial Applications
The PX50 is best suited to indoor commercial locations where speakers must be suspended below a high, exposed or architecturally open ceiling.
Restaurants, Cafés and Bars
Distribute background music above dining, service and seating areas without occupying wall or floor space.
Retail Stores and Showrooms
Create more consistent music levels across sales floors, product displays, checkout areas and customer spaces.
Gyms and Fitness Studios
Suspend speakers below exposed structures to improve music and announcement clarity across workout, yoga or wellness areas.
Offices, Lobbies and Reception Areas
Provide professional background music and general announcements in open-concept offices, reception areas, waiting rooms and large lobbies.
Hotels and Hospitality Spaces
Suitable for guest areas, lounges, corridors, conference spaces and other open-ceiling hospitality interiors.
Galleries, Museums and Public Interiors
Use evenly distributed pendant speakers for background audio and general voice communication while maintaining a clean visual layout.
Warehouses and Light Industrial Areas
Appropriate for background music and general announcements in moderate noise areas. High-noise industrial environments may require higher-output speakers or dedicated paging horns.
System Design and Technical Specifications
Indoor-use notice: No IP or outdoor weather rating is stated in the available PX50 installation manual. Do not install the speaker outdoors or in areas exposed to rain, condensation or excessive moisture unless AVTECK confirms that the planned location is suitable.
Selecting the Speaker Power Setting
The correct setting depends on the ceiling height, suspension height, ambient noise, required volume and distance from the speaker to the listener. The examples below are planning starting points, not fixed rules.
Commercial Amplifier Sizing
Add the selected wattage of every speaker connected to the amplifier. AVTECK recommends allowing approximately 20%–25% additional amplifier capacity for normal program peaks and possible future adjustment.
Recommended amplifier capacity: approximately 50W or higher
Recommended amplifier capacity: approximately 120W or higher
Recommended amplifier capacity: approximately 200W or higher
Important: Use one speaker-line type only. Set every speaker and the amplifier for the same 70V or 100V system. Never use the PX50 8-ohm setting on a 70V/100V amplifier output, and never connect a constant-voltage speaker setting to a low-impedance amplifier output.
Speaker Quantity and Placement
- Base the layout on room dimensions, mounting height, ambient noise and required coverage—not floor area alone.
- Suspend speakers at a consistent height whenever the ceiling layout allows.
- Space multiple speakers evenly instead of using one speaker at excessive volume.
- Keep the speakers below major beams, ductwork and structures that may block or reflect the sound.
- Lowering the speaker closer to the listening plane can improve clarity in very high-ceiling rooms.
- Do not assume the full 5m suspension cable is the correct acoustic height for every installation.
Commercial Pendant Speaker Installation
- Confirm the room layout, speaker quantity, amplifier output and required 70V, 100V or 8-ohm operating mode.
- Select a structural ceiling location capable of supporting the speaker and suspension assembly.
- Use mounting fasteners and anchors suitable for the ceiling material and expected load. The supplied screws may not suit every surface.
- Install the ceiling bracket and route the speaker cable through the bracket and ceiling cover.
- Adjust the suspension cord to the required height before completing the final connection.
- Select the correct transformer setting before applying amplifier power.
- Connect the amplifier speaker line to the labelled input terminals and maintain the same polarity throughout the system.
- Use the lead-out connection to continue to the next speaker when using a parallel or daisy-chain 70V/100V layout.
- Secure the ceiling cover and ensure the speaker cable does not place strain on the electrical connector.
- Begin testing at a low amplifier volume and confirm every speaker before making the final level adjustments.
Use speaker cable with the correct Canadian building rating for the installation, such as FT4 or FT6 where required. Permanent commercial installations should follow applicable building requirements and the authority having jurisdiction.
