Description

Add clear background music and natural voice reproduction to offices, restaurants, retail stores and other commercial interiors with a pair of compact Bose Professional ceiling loudspeakers.

The Bose Professional FreeSpace FS2C is a pair of commercial in-ceiling loudspeakers designed for background music, paging and voice announcements. Each speaker combines a 2.25-inch full-range driver, wide 150-degree coverage, selectable 70V/100V transformer taps, 16-ohm bypass operation and an integrated steel backcan. The modern ceiling appearance and consistent FreeSpace sound make the FS2C a practical solution for Canadian offices, clinics, cafés, retail stores, hotels, salons and professional spaces.

Bose FreeSpace FS2C Speaker Pair

This product includes two matching FreeSpace FS2C loudspeakers. The pair can provide balanced coverage in one small commercial room, two compact areas or as part of a larger distributed sound system.

Quantity: 2 in-ceiling loudspeakers

Driver: One 2.25-inch full-range driver per speaker

Audio-system options: 70V, 100V or 16Ω transformer bypass

Nominal coverage: 150°

Recommended use: Background music, speech, paging and announcements

Clear Music and Voice Reproduction

Each FS2C uses a custom 2.25-inch full-range transducer designed to reproduce both music and speech from one compact driver.

Its smooth response and clear vocal presentation make it suitable for background music, customer announcements, staff paging, meeting-room audio and other commercial applications where comfortable, intelligible sound is more important than high-impact bass.

Published frequency response: 95Hz–16kHz at -3dB

Published frequency range: 83Hz–19kHz at -10dB

A larger ceiling speaker or commercial subwoofer should be considered where deeper bass or louder foreground music is required.

Wide 150° Coverage

The FS2C provides wide 150-degree nominal coverage, helping distribute background music and speech across the listening area from a compact ceiling location.

Wide coverage is useful in smaller rooms, reception areas, offices, cafés and retail spaces where smooth sound distribution is preferred over a narrow or highly directional pattern.

Recommended Commercial Applications

ApplicationTypical Use
Office or Meeting Room Speech, presentations and low-level background music
Retail Store or Showroom Customer-facing music and general announcements
Restaurant or Café Dining-area music and staff communication
Medical Clinic Waiting-room audio and clear general paging
Salon, Spa or Wellness Centre Comfortable ambient music in customer areas
Hotel or Hospitality Space Lobby, corridor, meeting-room and common-area audio
Education or Training Room Voice reinforcement, presentations and program audio

Consistent FreeSpace Sound

Bose Professional FreeSpace models share a consistent tonal character, allowing FS2C ceiling speakers to be combined with compatible FreeSpace surface-mount and pendant models in the same commercial project.

This can help maintain similar sound quality in areas that require different speaker mounting styles, such as ceiling speakers in offices and surface-mount speakers in spaces without finished ceilings.

70V and 100V Commercial Audio Compatibility

The transformer built into each FS2C allows the pair to connect to a compatible 70V or 100V commercial amplifier.

Constant-voltage systems are practical when multiple speakers must operate over longer cable distances. The speakers are normally connected electrically in parallel, and the selected wattage tap of every speaker is added together to calculate the amplifier load.

Selectable Transformer Taps

Operating ModeSettings Per Speaker
70V 1W / 2W / 4W / 8W / 16W / bypass
100V 2W / 4W / 8W / 16W / bypass
Transformer Bypass 16Ω nominal impedance per speaker

Select the transformer setting before operating the system.

Use the 70V tap values with a 70V amplifier output and the 100V values with a 100V amplifier output.

Total Transformer Load for the Pair

SystemTap Per SpeakerTotal Pair Load
70V 1W 2W
70V or 100V 2W 4W
70V or 100V 4W 8W
70V or 100V 8W 16W
70V or 100V 16W 32W

Amplifier Capacity and Headroom

For reliable commercial operation, maintain approximately 20% unused amplifier capacity for normal music peaks and announcements.

Pair LoadMinimum Planning Capacity with 20% Headroom
2W 2.5W or greater
4W 5W or greater
8W 10W or greater
16W 20W or greater
32W 40W or greater

Select the next practical commercial amplifier size above the required capacity. Include every additional loudspeaker connected to the same amplifier when calculating the complete load.

16Ω Transformer-Bypass Operation

Each FS2C can also operate as a nominal 16-ohm loudspeaker when the transformer selector is placed in bypass mode.

Connecting both 16-ohm speakers in parallel creates an 8-ohm combined load. Use this arrangement only with an amplifier rated to operate safely at 8 ohms.

Do not connect the speaker to a 70V or 100V amplifier output while its selector is set to transformer bypass.

Recommended High-Pass Protection

Bose Professional recommends an 85Hz high-pass filter with a minimum 24dB-per-octave slope. This helps protect the compact driver from excessive low-frequency energy while maintaining clear music and voice performance.

Front-Baffle Euroblock Connection

A six-pin Euroblock connector with loop-through is positioned on the front baffle for easier installation and service access.

The loop-through terminals allow the speaker cable to continue to another loudspeaker. The connector accepts approximately 18 AWG to 14 AWG speaker wire.

Integrated Steel Backcan

Each FS2C uses an engineered-plastics front baffle with an integrated steel-formed backcan that protects the driver, transformer and connection area.

Top and side knockouts support conduit entry, while the enclosed design provides a complete commercial ceiling-speaker assembly for professional installation.

Suitable for Plenum Ceiling Locations

Bose Professional specifies the FS2C for indoor use and for installation in plenum locations. Current models carry UL 1480A certification and comply with UL 2043 requirements for plenum-space installation.

The product is also EN 54-24 certified and references installation requirements including NFPA 70, NFPA 72 and CSA C22.1 Section 32. Final system approval and installation must meet the applicable local Canadian building, electrical and life-safety requirements.

Secure Ceiling Mounting

Two standard mounting arms secure each loudspeaker against the back of the ceiling material. A safety-cable attachment point is also provided for the required secondary support.

The FS2C can accommodate ceiling material up to approximately 38mm or 1.5 inches thick. The ceiling structure must be suitable for the loudspeaker weight and installation method.

Optional Installation Accessories

Bose Professional offers optional accessories for projects requiring additional ceiling support or replacement installation options.

  • Adjustable FS2C tile bridges
  • DesignMax DM2C rough-in kits
  • FS2C retrofit kits
  • Ceramic terminal and fuse kits

Tile bridges and rough-in accessories are not included with the standard FS2C loudspeaker pair. Select them separately when required by the ceiling system or project specifications.

Modern Commercial Ceiling Appearance

The round perforated-steel grille has a durable powder-coated finish. The Bose Professional logo may be rotated or removed to suit the final speaker orientation and ceiling design.

FreeSpace FS2C loudspeakers are manufactured in black and white finishes. Confirm the selected finish shown on the product order before purchasing.
