Description
Power two commercial speaker areas, a stereo sound system or two independent audio channels with the TEXONIC MC2120 Class-D power amplifier.
The MC2120 delivers 120W per channel for a combined output of 240W. Each channel supports either a 70V distributed speaker line or a compatible 8-ohm speaker load, making the amplifier suitable for commercial background music, paging and professional AV systems.
Two Independent 120W Amplifier Channels
The MC2120 contains two separate amplifier channels. Each channel provides up to 120W and has its own balanced input, gain control, speaker output and filter setting.
This flexible design allows the amplifier to operate two commercial audio areas, two 70V speaker lines or a compatible left-and-right low-impedance speaker system.
Channel 1: Maximum rated output of 120W
Channel 2: Maximum rated output of 120W
Combined amplifier rating: 240W total across both channels
Important Power-Rating Information
The MC2120 does not provide one 240W speaker output.
Its total rating is divided between two independent 120W channels. Do not connect more than the permitted speaker load to either channel, even when the other channel is lightly loaded or unused.
Suitable Commercial Applications
- Restaurants, cafés and hospitality spaces
- Retail stores and showrooms
- Offices, boardrooms and training rooms
- Schools and educational facilities
- Places of worship and community halls
- Gyms and recreation facilities
- Commercial background-music systems
- Public-address and paging installations
Power Amplifier — Separate Source Required
The MC2120 is a dedicated power amplifier. It does not include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi streaming, USB playback, FM radio, microphone inputs or built-in source selection.
Connect a compatible mixer, audio matrix, network streamer, preamplifier, paging controller or other line-level source.
Use as a Two-Zone Commercial Amplifier
Each amplifier channel can power a separate commercial speaker area. For example, Channel 1 may serve a dining room while Channel 2 serves a lobby, office or secondary customer area.
Independent source selection requires a suitable two-zone mixer, audio matrix or preamplifier. The MC2120 itself provides amplification and channel gain adjustment, but it does not contain a source-routing matrix.
Dual-Channel 70V Speaker Operation
Both amplifier channels support compatible 70V commercial speakers equipped with transformer tap settings.
Multiple speakers can be connected in parallel on each channel. Calculate the speaker load for Channel 1 and Channel 2 separately by adding the selected 70V wattage tap of every speaker on that channel.
Speaker Load and 20% Headroom
Each 120W channel should maintain its own operating reserve. Keeping approximately 20% headroom provides a recommended maximum transformer-tap load of 96W per channel.
| Channel | Rated Output | 20% Reserve | Recommended Tap Load |
|---|---|---|---|
| Channel 1 | 120W | 24W | Approximately 96W maximum |
| Channel 2 | 120W | 24W | Approximately 96W maximum |
| Combined | 240W | 48W | Approximately 192W total |
The combined 192W recommendation is valid only when neither channel exceeds its individual recommended load of approximately 96W.
Example Two-Zone Speaker Load
Channel 1: 6 speakers at 15W each = 90W
Channel 2: 8 speakers at 10W each = 80W
Combined load: 170W, with both channels remaining below the recommended 96W limit
Final speaker quantities and tap settings depend on the speaker model, room size, ceiling height, speaker spacing and required volume.
Independent Speaker Tap Selection
Speakers on the same 70V line do not need to use identical tap settings. Each speaker may be adjusted according to the required volume at its location.
- Use lower taps in offices, hallways and quiet areas.
- Use medium taps for retail, dining and customer spaces.
- Use higher taps where additional sound output is required.
- Recalculate the channel load after changing any speaker tap.
Two-Channel 8-Ohm Speaker Operation
The MC2120 can also power compatible low-impedance speakers, providing up to 120W per channel into an 8-ohm load.
This configuration is suitable for a stereo installation or two correctly designed low-impedance speaker circuits. Confirm the final impedance and speaker power handling separately for each channel.
Important Speaker Connection Notice
Use the correct output type for each channel. Do not connect both the 70V and 8-ohm speaker terminals of the same channel at the same time.
Confirm speaker polarity, transformer tap settings, impedance and the total load on both channels before powering the amplifier.
Balanced Professional Audio Inputs
Each channel includes a balanced Phoenix-style line input for connection to compatible commercial mixers, processors, audio matrices and professional source equipment.
Balanced connections help reduce unwanted noise, particularly when the audio source and amplifier are separated by a longer signal-cable run.
Independent Channel Gain Controls
Separate gain controls allow the installer to balance the output of Channel 1 and Channel 2. These controls are useful when the two speaker areas have different speaker quantities, tap settings or required listening levels.
Selectable High-Pass Filter
A selectable high-pass filter is available for each amplifier channel. The filter reduces deep bass frequencies that may not be required by compact commercial or paging speakers.
With the filter switched off, the amplifier provides a wider frequency response. Select the filter position according to the connected speakers and the intended application.
Automatic Standby Mode
Auto standby helps reduce unnecessary power use when the amplifier does not detect an audio signal for a period of time. Normal operation resumes when a suitable input signal returns.
AC and 24V DC Power Options
The MC2120 operates from a standard 110V AC supply and also provides a 24V DC input for connection to a compatible external DC power system.
Any battery, charger, backup supply, cable protection and changeover arrangement must be properly designed for the amplifier’s electrical requirements.
Standard 19-Inch Rack Installation
The full-width chassis installs in a standard 19-inch AV rack and occupies one rack unit.
Provide suitable rack ventilation and keep the amplifier’s airflow openings clear. Avoid running sensitive audio-input wiring directly beside AC power and speaker cables.
Protection and Status Monitoring
- Short-circuit protection
- Output-overload protection
- High-temperature protection
- DC fault protection
- Clip-status indicators
- Input and output signal indicators
- Power and protection indicators
A protection or clip indicator that remains active may indicate excessive input level, incorrect speaker loading, a wiring fault or insufficient ventilation.
